Non Contested Probate

If you have recently suffered a bereavement, Pictons can support you and your family at a difficult time when matters can seem overwhelming. We have a knowledgeable and experienced team who can assist you with non-contentious probate work. Details of the services provided and costs are below: –

Fixed Fee initial probate advice meeting – £350 plus VAT

Applying for the Grant of Probate only – charged on an hourly rate basis of rates from £195 – £325 plus VAT depending on the complexity of the matter

Applying for Grant of Probate and administering the estate – 2% plus VAT of the gross value of the estate

Applying for Grant of Probate and administering the estate where Pictons are Executors – 2.5% plus VAT on the gross value of the estate

The above includes the following services*: –

  • Ascertaining full details and value of estate
  • Preparing application for Probate including calculation of Inheritance Tax and arranging payment if required
  • Liaising with asset and liability holders
  • Obtaining Grant of Probate and completing all tax formalities
  • Day to day administration of the estate
  • Gathering in assets and arranging disposals where necessary
  • Preparing, agreeing and distributing full estate accounts
  • Obtaining clearance for IHT purposes
  • Paying legacies and distributing net estate to beneficiaries

*additional fees may be payable if work over and above that listed above is required

Disbursements: –

These are costs related to your matter and are payable to third parties. We deal with the payment of the disbursements upon your behalf and you will be notified of such costs at the outset of your matter. Examples include: –

  • Probate application fee – £300 plus £1.50 per extra copy
  • Land Registry Entries – £3 per property
  • Trustee Act Notices from £150

There may be other disbursements payable depending on the circumstances of the estate

How long will it take?

On average, administering an estate can take between 6 – 18 months. Typically, obtaining the grant of probate takes 2-4 months, once all information has been obtained. Collecting assets then follows, which can take between 2-3 months. The next step is to distribute the assets, which normally takes 2-3 months.
