Pictons Attends Milton Keynes College Futures Fair

Pictons was invited to attend the Milton Keynes College Futures Fair on Wednesday March 26th, to inform its students about careers in the legal profession.

The college invited just over 20 local employers from a diverse range of industries and Pictons was chosen as the only legal firm in attendance. Anil Virji, a Partner at Pictons who heads the company’s Milton Keynes office says “We are always encouraging school and college students to think about careers in the legal profession, where there are a range of different opportunities, not only for young people aiming to become lawyers or barristers but also to pursue other roles available such as becoming a legal secretary or a conveyancer”.

“Whenever we give presentations to schools or colleges, we always have a packed audience of young people eager to find out what qualifications they need to progress in a legal career. They are often surprised to hear that at Pictons we like to give work experience and internships to young people who don’t have just academic ability.

“One of the best students we took on had previous work experience in a betting shop and she was worried that this would be held against her. In fact, she had excellent people skills and was brilliant at interacting with customers and great at customer service. These are two of the qualities that we look for in our staff as much as qualifications.

“It’s really important for young people to get as much experience as they can in dealing with people outside of studying, so work experience and things like volunteering with charities are really important for self development. In general it makes the student a much more interesting and rounded candidate to potential employers.”
