Pictons Headline Sponsors For 2014 Community Awards – Time To Nominate Your Local Heroes!

It’s nomination time for the annual Luton and Bedfordshire Community Awards, now in its fifth successful year. Leading regional law firm Pictons is again the headline sponsor of the Awards and everyone is now encouraged to nominate their local heroes.

This year there are 18 awards categories this year which will recognise the enormous contribution made by people and projects which deserve that special acknowledgement. The categories this year range from Charity Champions, Service With A Smile, Community Project and Role Model of the Year, to new categories including Parent in a Million, Best Neighbour and Dementia Champion.

As always, the fifteen judges will have a very tough task deciding which exceptional person or project stands out from all the other brilliant nominees. Sukh Saini, Pictons Managing Partner says “This year we are also sponsoring the Our Luton Awards, as well as being headline sponsors which means we have to select the Winner of Winners. Every year this feels like an impossible task and I truly admire the judges who have to choose the winners from all of the award categories, except for the Mayor’s Award.

“I think that a nomination alone shows you are appreciated by the people around you. There are so many people in Luton who improve lives for others and they truly deserve our recognition. I would encourage everyone to nominate a person or project they know of which deserves an award. Every year we get more and more nominations and the Gala Event where we give out the awards is a fantastic evening for everyone who is a nominee.

“At Pictons we are committed to supporting the communities where we have offices, in Herts Beds and Bucks. The Community Awards ceremony is one of my favourite nights of the year because it gives us all a chance to thank local unsung heroes for the great contribution they make to our local communities. ”

Every year the Community Awards gives a generous donation to charity and this year the recipients with be the Luton Food Bank. Community Magazine proprietor and Community Awards founder Mostaque Koyes says: “Last year we raised £10,000 for Keech Hospice and the same amount for the Children’s Ward at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital College. I hope we can raise even more this year for the Luton Food Bank as local people and local companies are so generous.“

The prizes will be awarded at a glamorous event on Friday 10th October at Venue Central and will be attended by 600 people.

The awards are sponsored by Pictons Solicitors, Bartham Group, Venue Central, Safer Luton Partnership, Basepoint, Luton Sixth Form College, University of Bedfordshire, Army, Luton Culture, Luton Clinical Commissioning Group, A- Plan Insurance, Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Services, Active Luton, Buildings Essentials, Bedfordshire Police, Aldwyck Housing Group, Mary Seacole Housing Association, Luton Community Housing, Bedfordshire and Community Foundation Trust, Realise Future, Herald and Post, Diverse fm, Inspire fm and E-touch Media.
